Casual Soul Asylum Fans Misremember Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees

February 22- Shocked by the news of his untimely death at the age of 57, millions of fans of Soul Asylum’s 1993 MTV hit “Runaway Train” misremembered him and his contribution to the grunge and alternative rock music scene of the 1990s.  At the time of press, the cause of Lanegan’s death was unknown.

Lanegan performed as the lead vocalist of the breakout grunge band Screaming Trees from 1984 until the band’s dissolution in 2000. He released several records under his own name as a solo recording artist, in addition to serving as the lead vocalist for Queens of the Stone age from 2000 until 2014.  He did not write, nor did he perform Soul Asylum’s 1993 power ballad “Runaway Train,” who’s music video prominently featured photographs of child and teenage runaways. He should not be remembered for the oversized tousled dreadlocked hairstyle of Dave Priner, lead vocalist of Soul Asylum.
